About the Event

Ages Teens to Adults, must have oil painting experience. Workshop will be from intermediate to advanced skill levels.

The Studio Presents during Mid-Winter Break “The Expression Of An Experience in Landscape Painting” with Instructor Frankie Gollub. Experience sketching with a brush in oils proficiently and telling your story with emotion on canvas. Frankie will guide you through the steps of composing a landscape and step by step instruct how to layer your canvas until you get an aesthetically beautiful piece of art.

Oil Colors *Artist Quality are recommended- Winsor and Newton(No Winton), Gamblin, M. Graham, Michael Harding to name a few. Gamblin Flake White Replacement ( or titanium white, but I recommend the Flake White Replacement for it’s consistency which is similar to lead white).

-Cadmium Yellow Light

-Yellow Ochre

-Cadmium Red

-Light Alizarin Crimson

-Venetian Red

-Burnt Sienna

-Ultramarine Blue

-Prussian Blue

-Raw Umber

-Asphaltum (Gamblin) or Burnt Umber

-Ivory Black

-Gamblin Flake White Replacement or Titanium White

-Cadmium Orange( Optional)

Other Materials:

-Odorless Mineral Spiritsn- Gamsol or Turpenoid Recommended *No turpentine!

-Quality Brushes

-Palette knife

-Palette- Hand held, glass, or disposable

-Stand Oil- Gamblin or Utrecht-Recommended for my technique We do provide easels but you can bring in your own pochade box or French Easel

-Sketch Book

-Canvas Paper or Arches Oil Paper We will provide a primed 9 x 12 panel for your painting

-Reference Photos/Art 3-4 photographic references of places you have been, moments you have experienced -photos you have taken are preferred.

Workshop Flow

Day 1 -Introduction- 30 Minutes -Explain using references to compose and develop a concept -Thumbnail sketches to create a composition 12:00-12:30-Lunch Break 12:30- 2:30- Poster Study in Color, 6 x 8

Day 2 -Look at poster studies -Demo start painting- 1 hour -Students start painting 12:00-12:30-Lunch Break 12:30-2:30- Students continue first layer- get as much completed as possible

Day 3 -Glazing and refining demo- 1 hour -Students start second layer 12:00-12:30-Lunch Break 12:30-1:30- Complete Painting 1:30-2:30- View student work and wrap up workshop
